One command to bootstrap a Claude Code workstation

claude-setup is the installer I wish I'd had on my first three machines. One curl pipe, an interactive menu, and you walk away with plugins, MCP servers, CLAUDE.md, rules, output styles, statusline, skills, commands, and frameworks — all configured, all opinionated, all production-tested.

Why I built it

Setting up Claude Code by hand takes 30–60 minutes per machine and you always forget something — the GSD framework, the security rules, the persistent-memory plugin, the right MCP server config. I'd done it enough times across enough machines that scripting it was overdue. The installer also doubles as a curated list of what's actually worth installing — the 5 plugins I'd recommend to anyone, with sane defaults for skills, output styles, and commands.

What it does

  • One-liner installcurl -fsSL .../quickinstall.sh | bash.
  • Interactive component picker — choose plugins, MCP servers, CLAUDE.md, rules, output styles, statusline, skills, commands.
  • 5 curated plugins — including claude-mem for persistent memory across sessions.
  • GSD framework preconfigured (Get Stuff Done — phase-driven planning, executing, reviewing).
  • Security and TDD rules baked in by default.
  • Secure secret handling for MCP server tokens (never written to git-tracked files).
  • CI test suite — every install path is exercised in GitHub Actions.

Stack

Pure Bash 5+. Tested on Linux and macOS. Modular component design so each part can be installed standalone.
